In continuation of my despatch No. 150 of the 22nd ultimo, I have the honour to forward copies of letters dated the 21st ultimo and the 9th and 17th instant which have passed between the Colonial Secretary and Mr. Wol Han, I am grat- ified to find that His Excellency the Govornor-General of the Liang Kuang Provinces has agreed to all my proposals with re- gard to co-operation in police matters between this Government and the Canton authorities, and I am confident that such co- operation will materially assist in the suppression of crime both in this Colony and in the neighbouring Province of China. It is a great satisfaction to me to resume these measures of co-operation and of friendly relations with the Viceroy Ad of Canton which existed during the whole of the time that that office was held by His Excellency Chang Jen Chun but which were very temporarily in abeyance during the tenure of office of the late Viceroy Yuan Shu Fan whose pronounced and blatant anti-foreign attitude made it impossible to do more than to preserve an ostensible and purely formal courtesy.
